Hide Out @ De Besturing
Graduated from art academy and then what? Well, find a place to start your own art practice. Studiocomplex De Besturing in The Hague offers spaces for artists and artist groups. And if you are very motivated and lucky, you might even get a space for free. This week is your chance to apply for a studio in the HIDE OUT talent program which involves an almost free studio for one year and a project space for a collective of makers to kickstart their own creative hub in the industrial area of de Binckhorst.
De Besturing was founded in 2006 and functions as an artist-run collective of about 40 people. In the past years De Besturing transformed from a temporary studio complex into a sustainable collective of artists, designers and other uncommon minds. The HIDE OUT program is a project to help students to start a practice of their own or to start and develop a form of collective collaboration with other artists and creative makers.
HIDE OUT Studio
The kick off of De Besturing’s talent program HIDE OUT took place in 2018 with the selection of Gökay Atabek as the first student to use the free studio. In October 2019, he made space for Gabriela Acha. Both artists finished their education at KABK this year. After their free period both Gökay and Gabriela took the opportunity to move to their own permanent studio in De Besturing. And from November 2019 until October 2020 the 18m2 studio will be free to use for another student in the field of ‘creative making’. So if you are enrolled at a bachelor or master program on architecture, design, art, industrial design or related subjects, this might be your chance. De Besturing is specifically interested in graduated students with a focus on visual research and experiment.
HIDE OUT Project Space
HIDE OUT Project Space offers the chance to set up your own ‘creative hub’ within De Besturing as a collective of makers. The two-year program offers a place to work, think and play hard with a group of like-minded people. You can create and expose new work, and simultaneously, develop a strong organizational backbone for the collective. Since September 2019, a group of 7 young artists – called Hgtomi Rosa – have set up their own collective in the project space. You can check their website to see what they have been doing: www.hgtomirosa.com The idea behind the program is not only to offer a space for experiment but also to help young collectives to organize themselves and grow into a more sustainable form. De Besturing also offers support on organizational and administrative topics.
