GRAUKUNST, part of Grauzone Festival, shows a retrospective exhibition of works by British artist and musician Genesis Breyer P-Orridge at Billytown in The Hague. With an art practice dating back to the late 1960s, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge has reinvented and reintroduced h/erself as groundbreaking performance artist, pioneer of industrial music, wrecker of civilization, essayist, and as pandrogyne. As a pioneer of the early Mail Art movement, s/he has created a body of work encompassing sculpture, drawing, design, video, photography, poetry, performance and expanded collage.
‘There is only one artwork…L-if-E’ features more than 30 works of art; drawings, photography, collages, paintings, video, music and sculptures, several of them displayed for the first time.
Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Manchester, 1950) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, poet, performance artist, and occultist. After rising to notability as the founder of the COUM Transmissions artistic collective and then fronting the industrial band Throbbing Gristle and experimental band Psychic TV. Breyer P-Orridge has been cited as an icon within the avant-garde art scene, accrued a cult following, and been given the moniker of the “Godperson of Industrial Music”.
