Springboard Art Fair
The Springboard Art Fair took place from the 8th to 11th of June, and was housed in the cavernous Werkspoorkathedraal in Utrecht. Aiming to shine a light on more than 100 artists who graduated during the three or so years of pandemic limbo, the participants were picked by ‘coaches’ — a diverse selection of curators, gallerists, artists and organizers who guided the artists through the one-off event. On show were an eclectic range of practices, the final presentation itself falling between a ‘traditional’ art fair and a more personal group show.
Despite the oppressive heat the fair was well-attended, showcasing the up-and-coming artists working in the Netherlands today. There were edible marshmallow sculptures, fluffy furniture, wine-tasting performances, gonzo podcasting, large-scale ceramics, paintings that glowed beneath the glass roof of the factory and much, much more.
