Compostourism

Wander invited Swiss artist Lorenz Olivier Schmid to develop Common Ground; an exchange project to produce both conversation and compost by the artist and his audience together. During his stay as an artist-in-residence Lorenz explores the social and sustainable qualitites of composting for the idyllic Nutstuin in The Hague, a city where composting is not common just yet. Lorenz collects organic waste in The Hague, meets with local experts to reflect on his research and designs a sustainable compostbin for collective use.

The main part of every Wander residency is the possibility for our resident artist to meet with a variety of professionals that could offer their thoughts and expertise. Lorenz met with an evolution biologist, a recycling organisation, the local environment centre, local artists and gardeners to share his research on composting. He was part of Museumnight with a new piece he made: Nocturnal Herbary, on view at the Nutstuin. And Wander and Lorenz organised a unique event on the 15th September: Compostourism!

Hop on your bike this Sunday to join Lorenz on a compostour to visit some local gardens that use composting in a different way. Meet local gardeners and learn more about the possibilities for your organic waste. The fieldtrip ends at the Nutstuin again where Lorenz elaborates on his work and reveals his new designed compostbin.
